Sherman Gardens is an inspiring horticultural oasis and nationally renowned botanical garden. A lush tropical conservatory featuring a koi pond, carnivorous plants, and an extensive orchid collection. Includes an artistic succulent garden, formal garden and a tea garden.

Program: The Bee Lady, Alysa Kimiko
Alysa will speak on the inner workings of a hive, the importance of pollinators to our food chain, and how we can support pollinators. Cost $5

Program: Bee Keeper Jon S. Vesely
Jon S. Vesely from Bee Rescue keeper of the bees “Saving people from bees” will be speaking on the life of bees and importance of saving them. He will also discuss how to provide a safe environment for bees in your garden. He plans to bring a display of live bees..

We are planning a tour of a private Begonia Garden.

Costa Verde District Special Event Program: Leadership Workshop
Leader: Robin Pokorski, Former CGCI President and PRGC Region Director.
South Coast Botanic Garden (26300 Crenshaw Blvd, Palos Verdes Peninsula), Frances Young Hall Thursday November 9, 2023 9:30 am to 2:30 pm
Workshop topics include parliamentary procedure, leadership, how to take minutes, motivating participation and team building.
Cost: $20

December 2023

LBGC Board Meeting December 6 10 am

General Meeting: Wednesday December 13 at 9:45 am. Note Date Change to second Wednesday
Program: Holiday Celebration and Potluck
We are asking groups to create a centerpiece of their own Theme, and present to the group. There may be time for driftwood project. Select treasures will be raffled and we can enjoy holiday treats at the potluck.

Activity: No tour or workshop in December

Certified farmers markets allow California farmers to sell only what they grow, so you know where your food comes from.

Program: Raised Bed Gardening
We will learn about raised bed gardens, what are the benefits, and what can be grown in a raised bed. Plus, how we can make our own.

Field Trip: Natural History Museum Nature Gardens and Exposition Park Rose Garden Wednesday, May 22 at 11 am
Join us as we wander through the Museum’s outdoor living room. We will see the Pond, Pollinator Meadow, Edible Garden, Living Wall and we can get our feet wet at the Urban Waterfall Creek Bed. Then its over to the Exposition Park Rose Garden before a nearby lunch.

Program: Rearing Butterflies By Cindy Waldorf, Longtime butterfly enthusiast
Cindy will walk us through rearing butterflies through their lifecycle, host and nectar plants, and the importance of pollinators.

Tour: Chino Family Farm Date & Time TBD
Chino Nojo means farm in Japanese, traces its history to the early 1920s when Junzo Chino immigrated from a small Japanese fishing village of Hashiquii. During WWII the family was moved to an internment camp in Arizona and returned to the farm afterwards. Today the farm is famous for its sweet corn, strawberries and tomatoes, but is also grows hundreds of varieties of other vegetables. Julie
Ginesi, an LBGC member, is related to this family.
