How to build your website

NOTE:  If you have not already done so please
  1. Complete and submit the appropriate request form
If you selected Level II and have received approval, follow the guidelines below to create your website
 
Setting up your account
  1. Upon approval you will receive an email with username and temporary password.
    1. the email will have a link to the sign in page on the CGCI website
      1. You will also be assigned a "file number" on the server
      2. The number will begin with "u" (example:  u150)
      3. When you upload documents or images you will upload to this file (see uploading instructions below)
  2. The first time you login you will need to change your password
  3. Log in to the CGCI site (LOGIN for CGCI website user acct) in the Website Access block on the left
  4. Click Edit tab
  5. Type in your new password
  6. Type in your new password again to confirm
  7. Scroll down and click on "save"
  8. Click on My Sections tab
  9. To create the first page of your new website
  10. Click on Create new Page link
  11. In the Title box enter name of your page (This will be displayed in the menu in left sidebar)
  12. In the Section area click on the dropdown box and selec/click on the menu you will be listed under (Note: For clubs it's club websites; For district it's district websites)
  13. Go to the Body section
  14. Create your content as you would for any "document". 
  15. The editing options (bold, italic, text alignment, text/background color etc) are located in the toolbar at top of Body screen

B.  Each time after this inital login when you want to update your website:

  1. Log in to the CGCI site (LOGIN for CGCI website user acct) in the Website Access block on the left
  2. Click on My Sections tab
  3. To edit an existing page
    1. select the page from the table displayed and click to open
    2. click on the "edit" tab at top
    3. scroll down to Body section and edit document
    4. scroll down to bottom of page and "save"
  4. To create a new page
    1. Click on My Sections tab
    2. Click on "create new page"
    3. follow instructions in section A above

Following are basic instructions on uploading/inserting images, linking documents, pages and anchors

To upload an image:

Go to your website page

  1. Within the editor click on the photo icon (next to text color icon)
  2. Click on browse server button
  3. Click on the upload button in the top left corner
  4. Click on the browse button (or the Choose File button in Safari)
    1. Find your file on your local computer
    2. Double click the file to select or highlight the file and click on open button
  5. Click on the upload button
  6. Double click on the uploaded file name (it will insert in Image Properties box)
  7. Click on OK
  8. To edit the image (align on page, add border, change size etc)
    1. right click on image and click on "image properties"
    2. in properties box select options
    3. click on OK
How To Create a Link to an existing Document (Document already on the server/website)

Go to your website page
  1. Click Edit tab
  2. Go to the body area and highlight the text you want to add a link to
  3. Click on link icon
  4. Click on the browse server button (or the Choose File button in Safari)
    1. Click on your file on the server (will be a "u" number)
    2. Locate document and double click (it will insert in Link box)
  5. Click on OK
  6. Document is linked
  7. Scroll down and click Save page

How To Create a Link to a New Document  (Upload new document to the server/website)

Go to your website page

  1. Click Edit tab
  2. Within the Body click on the word or phrase to be linked
  3. Click on link icon
    1. Click on browse server button
    2. Click on the upload button in the top left corner
    3. Click on the browse button (or the Choose File button in Safari)
      1. Find your file on your local computer
      2. Double click the file to select or highlight the file and click on open button
    4. Click on the upload button
    5. Double click on the uploaded file name (it will insert in Link box)
  4. Click on OK
  5. Scroll down and click Save page
  6. Test your link and make sure the path is correct for your directory structure

How To Create a Link to another page or outside web address.

Go to the website or page that you want to link
  1. Highlight the URL of the site/page (in the browser bar, top of screen)
  2. Select edit/copy or Ctrl C (to copy the URL)
  3. Go to your website page
  4. Click Edit tab
    1. Go to the body area and highlight the text you want to add a link to
    2. Click on link icon
      1. Paste the web address of the page you want to link to (Ctrl V)
      2. Click OK button
    3. Scroll down and click Save page

Anchor link (Anchors allow you to link to items on the same page this example is for creating a calendar with Month names being the links)

How to create an anchor for calendar pages
 
Create page
  1. In the Body type list of month names
  2. Click to left of a month name
  3. Click on insert/edit Anchor icon (looks like flag in toolbar)
    1. Type in anchor name (January)
    2. Do this for each of the months
  4. Go to top of Body section
    1. Type list of months horizontally across page
  5. To link the Anchor
    1. Highlight entire word for month
    2. Click on insert/edit link
    3. Click on Link Type drop down menu
    4. Select "Link to anchor in text"
    5. In "Select an Anchor By Anchor Name" select the anchor (month) you want to link to
    6. Click on OK button
  6. When all the months are linked to an Anchor scroll down and save page
