Gardening Club of Santa Clarita
About the Gardening Club of Santa Clarita
Love to garden? Want to meet other gardeners? We would love to have you come to a Gardening Club of Santa Clarita monthly meeting. We meet the second Thursday of each month. For information on the next meeting, please contact Diane Benjamin 250-8345 or Carol Mireles 263-8482.
In 2009 the Gardening Club of Santa Clarita idea first germinated under the direction of two very special and dynamic ladies, Diane Benjamin and Kathy Phillips. Not surprisingly both of them also happen to be avid gardeners. From the start the Club’s main purpose has always been to help gardeners of all ages, experience and interest levels. The Club is a catalyst for connecting, learning and sharing all of our knowledge and experience (both good and bad) with each other. Since its inception the Club has also been involved with assorted Santa Clarita Valley community gardening events, including planning and performing at least one community outreach program annually
From its start the Club has been organized, but in a casual format. Meetings are held on a monthly basis at the Sierra Hills Swim and Racket Club, 28616 Kenroy Ave, Canyon Country. Generally, guest speakers first give an informative presentation followed by questions and answers; and a short Club meeting also occurs. In August, 2010 the Club first formally elected Officers and Committee Chairs in order to foster growth, encourage and mentor leadership and help disburse responsibility for planning, promoting and conducting Club activities – both within the wider Santa Clarita Valley area and elsewhere [trips have included Descanso Gardens, Los Angeles Arboretum, The Huntington, Theodore Payne as well as Butchart Gardens (located on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada)].
The Club is part of California Garden Clubs, Inc., San Fernando Valley District and the Pacific Region of National Garden Clubs, Inc. This membership now gives our Club access to additional benefits, such as gardening classes, liability insurance, luncheons and interaction with other gardening clubs in a much more widespread geographic area. Additional Club benefits are also available to our members, including discounts arranged through local vendors/businesses such as Green Thumb Nursery, Foothill Soils, Boething Nursery, Roy Boak Tree Service and more.
