Roseville Better Gardens Club

Established in 1928, the Roseville Better Gardens Club is an award winning, nonprofit educational organization affiliated with California Garden Clubs, Inc. The club’s objectives are to create, promote, and further interest in amateur gardening, plant life, conservation, and wildlife. Join one of the oldest garden clubs in California, learn about gardening, meet new gardening friends, and have fun! As of September 2025, we have 100+ members and growing.

The Roseville Better Gardens Club membership offers:

  • Monthly meetings with knowledgeable program speakers
  • Informative horticultural presentations
  • Community service activities and funds awarded to non-profit groups for horticulture, conservation and wildlife projects
  • Special field trips, tours, workshops, and other activities
  • Sharing of gardening information and techniques
  • Monthly newsletters
  • Annual scholarships to college students pursuing a horticulture-related degree  (click on Scholarship link above for more information)

GENERAL MEETINGS:  3rd Wednesday, unless noted, of each month from September to June; no meetings held during July and August. 

  • Where: Maidu Community Center – 1550 Maidu Drive, Roseville, CA 95661 (off of Rocky Ridge Drive between Douglas Boulevard and Cirby Way)
  • Time:     Doors open at 12:30 PM; meetings 1:00 – 3:00 PM
  • GUESTS ARE WELCOME AT OUR MEETINGS!!  Guests are encouraged to arrive at 12:30.
  • We socialize and celebrate in December (Holiday Luncheon) and June (End of the Year Luncheon) – no regular meetings in those two months.

MEMBERSHIP INFORMATION:

  • Annual membership dues are $40 per person or $60 for two people in the same household.
  • Guests are invited to attend two meetings before committing to membership.

The public is invited to shop and support the Club.

Member grown plants including veggies, herbs, annuals & perennials, California natives,

ground covers, shrubs, ornamental grasses, houseplants, and succulents & cacti.  

Also fresh flower arrangements, lots of garden items, garden art, baked goods, and children’s project table.

All at great prices!

CGCI Awards for 2025

Special Award – Pam Thompson

GARDENER OF THE YEAR $100 and certificate. To a club member whose volunteer efforts have made outstanding contributions in horticulture to his/her club and/or community in one or more of the following: public education, beautification, conservation, youth activities, and/or all-around excellence in horticulture.

Special Award – Peggy Beller
Award of Merit

May be awarded to club members who give exceptional service to their club and/or district. For meritorious achievement, creative vision, ingenuity, or outstanding ability in any field that advances garden club objectives. Three Awards of Merit may be given each award year.

#22 CONTAINER GARDENING-Anita Urie, 2nd place $50.00. For the most outstanding container/s of fruits, vegetables, herbs, flowers, or a combination thereof. A container is defined as a vessel used for planting that is separated from the earth beneath. (For example, a raised bed directly on the ground is not considered a container; however, a raised bed elevated off the ground by legs or one completely inside a vessel such as a metal trough would be considered a container.)

#27 UNIQUE BACKYARD ENHANCEMENT-Bruce Thompson, 1st place $75.00. For a backyard/garden that has been enhanced by the addition of unique items, such as a greenhouse, aviary, aquaponics, rainwater collection barrels, etc. All water features must be water-recirculating. Include photographs of the enhancements.
