About the Design Forum 

31ST Anniversary Season

What is the Floral Design Forum?

The Floral Design Forum is a demonstration workshop featuring the finest floral designers from all areas: professional field, AIFD, Ikebana schools and National Garden Club designers.

The objectives are to:

  • promote appreciation of floral art forms 
  • develop skills in critiquing floral designs
  • improve individual skills for in home floral decorating
  • teach skills for flower show exhibitions
  • encourage members to enter flower shows
  • promote floral arts in the community.

The forum is open to anyone interested in floral design, from professionals to novices. In addition to floral demonstrations, attendees are introduced to new products, new or different plant material and ways to use them. 

The workshops are held from noon-2pm on the first Monday from Oct. thru May at Rancho Penasquitos Public Library, 13330 Salmon River Road, San Diego, CA 92129. 

What is the cost for 8 Sessions?
  • $1,000 Donation – Corporate Membership
  • $500 Donation – Sustaining Membership
  • $100 Donation – Individual Membership
  • $15 Donation – Single Session

Garden Club Special Membership – $100 donation for 8 attendees to be used one at one time or as a group. A great incentive for club members!

Please consider supporting the Design Forum with a yearly membership. Contact us if you would like to demonstrate or donate plant material and/or floral products. The Forum is a part of the Palomar District of California Garden Clubs, Inc, and is a non-profit, 501 C (3)

Fees: Choose $100 donation for all 8 programs   or $15 donation for a single session.

*October 2, 2023 – Robert L. Gordon AIFD Ornamental Horticulture Professor and Garden Club member for many years; Kicks off the 31th season as he did the very  First season. A 1 hour Demonstration followed by an 1.5 hour hands-on workshop.  Bring your own lunch and SPECIAL START TIME OF 11:30AM.

November 6, 2023 – Diana Roy, Resendez Protea Growers. She handles the books but gets creative with the incredible floral material.  She chose this month with different material and to help you design for the Fall and Winter Holidays

December 4, 2023 Betty Patterson del Sol, instructor leader in SD Fair comes to share Winter Design ideas.

*January 8, 2024 Jon Martinez, Professional, lead designer  Pacific Events. Creative learning. Don’t miss his fast paced, ever changing ideas.

February 5, 2024 Welcome to Debra Warriner from the Ichiro School of Ikebana. Learn some of the changes from other schools and appreciate the beauty and elegance of design.

March 11, 2024, A special designer, Dyanna Madro, brings Miniatures. aka Petite Designs. NGC Master, Flower Show Judge &  Winningest Designer at the San Diego Fair this year. PRE REGISTER for workshop materials.

April 1, 2024 “FLOWER POWER” Our most popular Program.  Watch as 4 local college student designers race against the clock to complete a Surprise Package design from material, container and theme.  Then, like a 3 ring circus, they show a “signature design,” a “round robin” and then a “wrap up” design. 

May 6, 2024The “Grand Finale “garden club” designer(s) will inspire, educate and WOW you with their exploration into the world of design.
