WHAT CAUSES FALL COLOR IN SOME OF OUR TREES?

Q: What causes trees to have colored leaves in the fall? Lorry Hunter, Tehachapi

A: Day length is the most important factor in the annual change of colors.

As the amount of light diminishes with each day, the production of chlorophyll (the green pigments in the leaves) slows and eventually comes to a complete stop.

PENSTEMON, HOLLYHOCKS & PERENNIALS SEEDS

Do you want a permanent flower in your garden that requires almost no summer watering, little fertilizer, that crowd out weeds, that blooms early in the spring and continues to bloom into the fall, needs very little blossom dead heading?

One of the best perennials that will do this is the PENSTEMON!!
