The 2014-2016 three-year calendars will be available for sale at the 2012 CGCI Fall Board Meeting in San Mateo. The cost is still at the bargain price of $5 that includes the plastic cover. The net proceeds will be split equally between CGCI's newest, long-term state projects: Project Mission Blue and Anza-Borrego Desert State Park.  Contact Shane Looper, 650-871-0172, to make arrangements for quantity purchases for your district and/or club.

In a Nutshell

The following recaps highlights of the reports presented at the CGCI Convention in Sacramento in June from CGCI officers, district directors and chairmen.

Anza-Borrego Desert State Park - CGCI's Newest State Project

On June 7, 2012, the CGCI Board of Directors approved a new state project for CGCI members to help restore the Visitor Center Desert Garden at Anza-Borrego Desert State Park. Years of declining budgets and deferred maintenance have left the beautiful three-acre desert garden surrounding the Visitor Center in need of serious restoration efforts.  The park has many volunteers willing to supply labor to restore the garden, but funds are needed to buy plants and supplies.

2012 MARCH GARDENING ACTIVITIES

GARDEN PATCH POINTERS
By Robert H. and Hoberley Schuler

March 7th is Luther Burbank’s Birthday! I can’t think of a better way to honor one of our nation’s greatest horticulturists than to open our March Activities dedicated to “Happy Birthday Mr. Burbank! He was born in Lancaster, Mass. in 1849. He moved to Santa Rosa in October 1875.

In California, many of us celebrate Arbor Day by planting a tree to honor Luther Burbank, a man who changed the world when he lived in California.
